How to Install WordPress in cPanel
WordPress is the most popular website platform in the world. More than 40 percent of websites on the internet use WordPress. On Satelitweb hosting, WordPress installation is very easy thanks to Softaculous auto-installer. The process only takes a few minutes and you will have a ready-to-use website.
Preparation Before Installation
- Make sure domain is active and pointing to hosting
- Prepare website name, admin username, and password you want to use
- Decide on email for WordPress notifications
How to Install WordPress via Softaculous
- Login to Satelitweb cPanel
- Find the SOFTWARE section
- Click Softaculous Apps Installer
- In Softaculous page, find WordPress (usually on front page or click Blogs category)
- Click WordPress then click Install Now
Fill Installation Form:
Software Setup:
- Choose Protocol: Select https:// if you have SSL, or http:// if not
- Choose Domain: Select domain for WordPress installation
- In Directory: Leave empty to install on main domain. Enter folder name to install in subfolder, like blog
Site Settings:
- Site Name: Your website name, for example Online Clothing Store
- Site Description: Tagline or brief website description
Admin Account:
- Admin Username: Do not use admin as it is vulnerable to hacking. Create unique username
- Admin Password: Strong password minimum 12 characters
- Admin Email: Email for receiving notifications and recovery
Choose Language: Select English or your preferred language
Select Plugins (optional): Softaculous usually offers additional plugins. You can skip and install later from WordPress dashboard.
Advanced Options (optional):
- Database Name: Leave default or customize
- Table Prefix: Change from wp_ to unique prefix for security
- Backup Location: Choose backup location
- Scroll down and click Install
- Wait for installation process to complete (usually 1-2 minutes)
- After completion, you will get links to website and admin panel
Accessing WordPress Dashboard
After installation:
- Website: https://yourdomain.com
- Admin Panel: https://yourdomain.com/wp-admin
Login with username and password you created during installation.
Steps After Installation
1. Update WordPress, Theme, and Plugins
Once in dashboard, check Updates section. Install all available updates for security.
2. Delete Default Content
- Delete Hello World post in Posts
- Delete Sample Page in Pages
- Delete Hello Dolly and Akismet plugins if not used
3. Configure Permalink
- Go to Settings then Permalinks
- Select Post name for SEO friendly URLs
- Click Save Changes
4. Install Theme
- Go to Appearance then Themes
- Click Add New
- Choose free theme or upload premium theme
- Click Install then Activate
5. Install Important Plugins
- Security: Wordfence or Sucuri
- SEO: Yoast SEO or Rank Math
- Performance: LiteSpeed Cache (free for Satelitweb hosting)
- Backup: UpdraftPlus
- Contact Form: WPForms or Contact Form 7
Setting SSL in WordPress
If website uses SSL but still has mixed content warning:
- Go to Settings then General
- Change WordPress Address URL from http to https
- Change Site Address URL from http to https
- Click Save Changes
Installation Troubleshooting
Installation failed:
- Check disk space is still available
- Make sure database limit not reached
- Try repeating installation process
Cannot access wp-admin:
- Clear browser cache
- Try private or incognito mode
- Reset password via Softaculous if forgotten
Website error after installation:
- Check error log in cPanel
- Deactivate recently installed plugins
- Switch theme to default theme
