Use IMAP or POP3?
Choose IMAP if:
- You access email from multiple devices (laptop, phone, tablet)
- You want email to sync automatically across devices
Choose POP3 if:
- You only access from one computer
- You want to store emails locally
- Hosting storage is tight
Recommendation: Just use IMAP, it is more practical.
Troubleshooting
Cannot connect to server:
- Check internet connection
- Make sure server name is correct
- Try changing SMTP port to 587
Authentication failed:
- Username must be full email not just the name
- Check password, it is case sensitive
- Try resetting password in cPanel
Can receive but cannot send:
- Check outgoing server settings
- Make sure SMTP authentication is enabled
- ISP might block port 465, try port 587
